ART & DESIGN

At St Raphael’s, we believe that art stimulates creativity and imagination. We aim to provide opportunities for children to explore ideas and meanings from their own experience and through drawing upon and reflecting on the work of artists, crafts people and designers, from a different range of cultures.  We encourage children to develop their creative and imaginative talents through learning skills and techniques, using a variety of materials and tools, including drawing and painting, print-making, textiles, collage and 3D work. 

The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:

• Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
• Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.
• Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
• Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
