The Sacrament of Reconciliation Advent and Lent 2023-2024
Reconciliation:
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also known as the Sacrament of Penance, of forgiveness, and of conversion. The Sacrament of Reconciliation reconciles the sinner with God and the Church. When we go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and tell our sins to the priest, we fall into the heavenly arms of our Father who forgives us through the words of the priest.
During the seasons of Advent and Lent, the children in Year 4 – 6, who have made their First Holy Communion, participate in the sacrament of reconciliation. Father John visits the school during Advent and Lent to administer this sacrament.
Pope Francis reassures us that ‘To celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation means to be wrapped in a warm embrace’.
He urges us ‘Don’t be afraid to go to the Sacrament of Confession where you will meet Jesus who loves you’.
Pope Francis also reminds us that ‘The Lord never tires of forgiveness. It is we who tire of asking for forgiveness. Let us ask for the grace not to tire of asking for forgiveness because he never tires of forgiving’.
